oculus

Laying on your back, gazing up through leaves of trees filtering the sunlit sky above is a transcendent experience. The Oculus tree house design aims to re-imagine the tree house with an innovative oculus framing the tree/sky experience. There will be two structures enabling adults and children to choose their experience: climb into a softly rocking tree house, mimicking the wind through the trees, or gradually enter a static, solid platform from which to gaze up into trees. Designed to be more accessible than an traditional tree house, the concept allows a wider audience to experience the magic of the tree canopy.

Held every 5 years, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum’s Amazing Spaces design competition asks people to re-imagine the tree house and the winning entries will be displayed all summer at the arboretum for people to engage with.
