st. john's terminal
The landscape design for St. John's Terminal, the home of Google's headquarters in Manhattan, draws inspiration from native flora of the island and the essence of spontaneous growth. This design creates an organic, dynamic environment that complements the building's historical significance as a former rail terminal. The ground floor entry welcomes visitors with a tessellating paving pattern that mimics the natural intricacies of the landscape. Large stones and long stone benches are strategically placed to provide seating and focal points, surrounded by lush native plantings that introduce a touch of wilderness to the urban setting.
At the entry facade, the exposed structure of the former rail terminal is covered in cascading plantings that soften the industrial edges and celebrate the building's historical roots. Multiple floors of the building feature outdoor spaces designed for coworking, games, and events, providing versatile environments that foster creativity and community. These elevated green spaces offer a blend of tranquility and functionality, ensuring that employees can enjoy a breath of fresh air while working or hanging with colleagues. The landscape design at St. John's Terminal not only offers great office amenity space but also promotes a sustainable, vibrant, and inspiring workspace.
